The American Red Cross issues new Pet First Aid app

The new Pet First Aid app released by the American Red Cross is designed to help Dog and Cat owners to deliver emergency care until expert help is to hand.

Obviously early intervention on health matters is important in terms of outcomes, and may even prove to be critical in some emergency situations.  The app gives users instant access to expert information on what to do in an emergency in addition to advice on how to maintain their pet’s health on an ongoing basis.

The app provides step-by-step instructions, videos and images for more than 25 common first aid and emergency situations. Users are shown how to treat wounds, control bleeding and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies. Other topics covered include burns, car accidents, falls and what to do for cold- and heat-related emergencies.

The app has a number of handy features that allows pet owners to:

  • Create a comprehensive Pet Profile including tag identification number, photos, list of medications and instructions.
  • Use the list of early warning signs to learn when to call their veterinarian.
  • Find emergency pet care facilities.
  • Test their knowledge with interactive quizzes.

The Pet First Aid App and other Red Cross apps can be found in the Apple App Store (iPhone and Android smart phones at a cost of 99 cent) and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for American Red Cross or by going to redcross.org/mobileapps.
